Log Removal

To my fellow mountain bikers,
As you all know we are blessed with an awesome array of trails in the LV. There is something for everyone. For those that like spinning you can hit up Jacobsburg, for those into a fast flow loop you have Trexler, those that want a bit more challenge Nox, those interested in learning some skills and having a fun night ride there is Jordan, for those interested in technical xc Sals and for those who want a bit of everything there is SMBeth.

South mountain Emmaus is another story. Due to the rocks, logs and the initial climb it is not the ideal place to learn how to mountain bike but it is a great place to push your skills to the next level. The log crossings which are necessary for prevention of trail erosion and to some extent to limit motorized vehicles provide a challenge to the newbie mountain biker. The reality however is that every single log along the trail or crossing the trail is ride-able by one of your mountain biking brethren. Yes, even the huge logs that are 3 ft in the air. There has been a number of logs that were removed that have been a joy to the SME riders for 10 years. The person(s) responsible are probably thinking that now the trail is easier. This however is not the point of SME. The tech is part of the challenge, the fun! If you want to ride an easier trail see the first paragraph. To remove these logs is selfish and short sighted. One day you too will be good enough to hit all those logs. Unfortunately if they keep getting removed there will be nothing to get better on!

If you have no idea how to ride some of the features find a group to ride with or talk to some of the guys who are always out on their bikes. 90% of people who ride there would be happy to give a short skill clinic!

Keep riding and keep your chainsaws at home until the next storm!
